Program
(ASIP), offered by McNeil & Company Insurance and Risk Services, has announced their 10 year anniversary in insuring the commercial ambulance market. In a turbulent market niche, with insolvent carriers scattered along the insurance landscape, today’s milestone is nothing short of spectacular.
They carefully entered into the market in 1997, trying to adhere to the philosophy of insuring only the best commercial ambulance services first in the Northeast, and then throughout the country. Their patience and underwriting discipline have contributed to their longevity and responsible growth during an opportunistic marketplace.
Currently with Arch Insurance Group (AM Best A-rated), the
ASIP
team has developed some underwriting and loss control measures to ensure the adherence to our goal: insuring only the best. Even well run ambulance services have accidents but it is how they manage those losses (as well as protecting against future losses) that holds the key to a strong service and indicates to us those risks worth pursuing. An ambulance service with strict adherence to risk management principals is a desirable account. One of the keys to
ASIP’s success has been the development of a pre-screen worksheet that is used at the point of entry and uses a unique formula to determine who would be a worthy (profitable) prospect. This proprietary system was developed using loss data which had been accumulated over the years, and awards points for a variety of key components of an ambulance service and its operation.
The marketing, underwriting and loss control disciplines have immersed themselves into this insurance niche by attending regional and national trade shows (EMS Today, EMS Expo and the annual AAA Convention) as well as becoming active members in the associations (American Ambulance Association and National Association of EMS Physicians) closely tied to the Commercial Ambulance market.
Currently at $25 million in premium, McNeil & Company Insurance and Risk Services looks to maintain responsible growth while using the same underwriting discipline that has been the trademark of one of the leading insurers of Commercial Ambulance Services. The strategic alliance with DriveCam, video technology that modifies driver behavior, has furthered our commitment to the ambulance owners of quality services. By offering insurance discounts for implementation of DriveCam, we have proven that we will reward exceptional clients with a stable marketplace, one that understands their uniqueness.
